Advanced Materials Technologies (AMT) was incorporated in 1990 and is the material business arm of Accuron Technologies. AMT has positioned itself as a specialized contract manufacturer of a range of high volume and high precision engineering components found in equipment used in the electronics, industrial, and medical sectors using its proprietary Power Injection Moulding (PIM) technology.
AMT started with MIM of ferrous metals and has since grown to include the processing of other materials such as copper, aluminum, tungsten and ceramics. Its vision is to be a leader in the application of advanced materials in metals, ceramics and polymers. AMT engages in the design, development, manufacturing and supply of injection moulded components. Its core competencies and manufacturing capabilities include:
- Metal Injection Moulding (MIM)
- Ceramic Injection Moulding (CIM)
- Non-Ferrous Metal Injection Moulding
- Precision Machining

Metal Injection Moulded (MIM) components
MIM is a technology employed for producing extremely complex shaped parts in high quantities. MIM relies on metal moulding to form a metal powder-polymer feedstock into the desired shape, with subsequent high temperature sintering of the metal powder to create parts of complex geometry. The technology takes advantage of unique process capabilities such as combining components into one complex geometry part or co-moulding and bonding dissimilar materials. The MIM process allows the manufacture of large quantities of relatively small but complex and high-precision components at competitive costs.
The applications in which the MIM produced parts are found include electronic devices, telecommunications equipment, fibre-optic components, computer disk drive parts and medical devices.

Ceramic Injection Moulded (CIM) components
The CIM components are used within various engineering applications which require specific properties such as chemical inertness, high temperature stability, wear resistance and electrical insulation. The materials used in CIM are mainly alumina, zirconia and spinel. AMT has also developed processes to manufacture translucent ceramics which are used as tubes for metal halide lamps in the lighting industry, as well as high-dense ceramic components for fuel cell applications.

Non-ferrous MIM components
Non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, copper and tungsten-copper are mainly used for thermal management components. AMT is the pioneer to commercialize the injection moulding of copper and aluminum materials that give the thermal management industry alternative processes to extrusion or die-casting for heat-sink fabrication. These innovative processes were patented and trademarked by AMT under the name of aluMIM™, cuMIM TM and wcu MIM™, respectively. |

Precision machined metal components
AMT’s precision machined metal components service is a necessary complement to the injection moulding customers as a one-stop integrated service. The precision machined metal components are a result of either (i) further processing from the MIM and/or CIM processes or (ii) direct orders from customers which require raw materials to be subjected to precision machining work without going through the MIM or CIM processes. The materials processed are mainly ferrous and non-ferrous materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, brass and ceramics. |
